VH Trails App Update!!
Update Now Available on Google Play and the App Store
All users are encouraged to update immediately for the best trail experience
Vinalhaven Land Trust is pleased to announce the release of a significant new version of the VH Trails app (2.0.4), now available for download on both the Google Play Store (Android) and the Apple App Store (iOS). All existing users are strongly encouraged to update to the latest version as soon as possible to enjoy a smoother, more up-to-date experience on the trails.
What's New in This Version
This update brings meaningful improvements to the app's core functionality. Most notably, the app now automatically checks for and downloads the latest trails data each time it is launched — meaning users no longer need to manually update offline trail data. Simply open the app and you're up to date.
How to Update the App
Updating is quick and easy. Follow the steps for your device:
Android Users: Open the Google Play Store → Search for “VH Trails” → Tap Update.
iPhone/iPad Users: Open the Apple App Store → Search for “VH Trails” → Tap Update.
Updating should be seamless. However, if you see a notification about update issues, simply remove the old version before installing the new one.
Tip: If the App Store or Play Store shows an “Open” button instead of “Update” or “Install,” tap on the VHtrails app icon directly to find and tap the Update button.
When you first open the app, you may notice a brief delay of approximately 10 to 25 seconds. This is the app automatically checking for and downloading the latest trails and map data. After that, the app goes completely offline, relying only on GPS satellite signals; no cellular connection needed! This is especially valuable on trails in areas with weak or no reception.

The "VHtrails" app is a free hiking app for smartphones that provides directions to the many hiking trails located in the preserves and parks on Vinalhaven. The app includes descriptions of the trails, and directions to the trail head. Offline mode allows for navigational support when on the trails!
Once downloaded get outside and enjoy the trails!
