Let’s protect Grimes Park for the Public—Forever

For decades, Grimes Park, sitting just beyond the ferry terminal, has been owned and cared for by Vinalhaven’s American Legion, serving as a vital public green space at the heart of the island’s waterfront. As the Legion begins constructing a new legion hall to serve the entire island as a community center, the Vinalhaven Land Trust has committed to raising $350,000 to purchase this property and begin providing the long-term care and improvements that this beloved park deserves, now and into the future.

Grimes Park is one of the most important public places on Vinalhaven. Not only is it an iconic and precious gem of the island’s marine viewshed, it’s conservation with Vinalhaven Land Trust would:

  • Protect our highest-trafficked park from private development

  • Defend ecologically vital marine habitat and shoreline

  • Offer VLT extraordinary visibility to all ferry passengers

  • Provide upkeep for a public, sandy beach in the Village and provide watercraft access to Carvers Harbor and Sands Cove

Be part of this moment for Grimes Park at a pivotal time in its history.
